Except for Leaving the Body and Astral Plane, both taped at an earlier date in Formentera, Spain, the whole of Tibetan Bells II was recorded during June, July and August, 1978, at Celestial Sound Studios, San Francisco, California.
CD 3: Total Time: 51'52 Yamantaka was recorded in November, 1982, at the Grateful Dead Sound Studios, San Rafael, California and Rolling Thunder Studio, Novato, California. [Tracks 3 to 5] were recorded as bonus tracks especially for the CD reissue of Yamantaka. These tracks were recorded digitally in July of 1991 at Pulse Wave Underground Recording Studios in Trumbull, Connecticut. They were mixed at Carriage House Recording Studios in Stamford, Connecticut and digitally edited at Edit Masters in Chatham, New York.
All sounds on this recording were created solely by bells, bowls, cymbals, gongs and wind chimes. No electronic effects or synthesizers were used (although special microphone positioning techniques and tape manipulation were employed on The Empty Mirror and Crossing The Line.)
All compositions except Spacelights (the basic tracks for which had been recorded previously in California) were recorded flat, meaning with no equalization of any kind. This recording was made on a 24 track Otari running at 30 i.p.s. The mix down was made to Sony PCM-F1 through an automated SSL console.
These microphones were strategically places in a slightly reverberant room: 2 Brüel & Kjær 4003, 2 AKG 414, 2 AKG 451, 2 Sennheiser 421, 2 Neumann U47, 2 Schoeps PZM, 1 AKG D12 , and 2 vintage RCA 44 (ribbon).
All compositions published by Vajra Music (ASCAP). All compositions are administered by Mayflower Music Corp.
