Starting around 1996, Time-Life repackaged many of the [l734176] series releases for the [l463191] series. The [l463191] releases included updated artwork and packaging, but the used same track listings, masterings, and (usually) the same matrix number on the disc.

Time-Life released this disc as Rhythm & Blues 1971 (RHD-09) in the [l734176] series and Solid Gold Soul 1971 (R838-06) in the [l463191] series. The two CD releases are digitally identical.

The mastering engineer credit of Dennis Drake likely applies to any work done for the SGS release in 1996 (which probably isn't any, because the two CD releases are digitally identical), and the mastered at Hit And Run Studios credit (run by Steve Carr) likely applies to the original mastering done for the R&B release in 1991.
