GRIDS [Generative Randomized Interlaced Double Stereo]. Composition for 4 CD players, 132 random monaural sounds and 24 random silences [48 electronic sounds, 32 kayagum sounds, 28 digital data sounds, 24 jazz drumkit sounds and 24 silences]. - Kayagum sounds performed by Ji-Yeon Koh at a rehearsle recording session of Ensemble 6, recorded in seoul, 2003. - Data sounds taken from my crashed external hardware, Los Angeles, 2004. - Electronic sounds sampled from a live recording of Tristram Cary 1971 composition Trios, performed by Vincent Epplay and Samon Takahashi, montpellier, 2006. - Jazz drumkit sounds stolen from Jacques Thollot lp Quand le son devient aigü jeter la giraffe à la mer, Futura records, 1971. - Silences stolen from in-between words silent parts of John Cage’s record Empty words.
GRIDS (as a 4 mono channels installation) accepts 2 different playing modes and lenghs : ∞, moderato and 13 min 20 sec, fortissimo. This is a stereo reduction of the ∞ moderato 4 mono channels composition.
GRIDS was first performed at colletpark gallery as part of haegue yang’s exhibition 'les indépliables', december 2006.
For a better listening this cd must be played in random and repeat all mode.
