Premiere release of the score to Akira Kurosawa's Shadow Warrior, A.K.A. Kagemusha (April 26, 1980). Disc 1 contains the complete score with disc 2 containing the Nippon Columbia soundtrack album. Bonus tracks on disc 1 include unused cues, outtakes and unedited material. Bonus tracks on disc 2 include music recorded for a TV special, music recorded during a rehearsal session and edited music made for the international version of the film. Music Composed by Shinichiro Ikebe, conducted by Kotaro Sato, performed by New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and mixed by Yutaka Kobayashi and Shinji Hori. Discs 1 and 2 are in stereo except for disc 2, tracks 43 - 49. While not indicated in the booklet, disc 1, tracks 10 and 29 are in mono.

The score was recorded on April 1, 1980 at Media Studio and on April 4 and 5, 1980 at Waseda AVACO Studio.
The TV special music was recorded on February 29, 1980 at the Toho Recording Center and was engineered by Shinji Hori.
The rehearsals were recorded on March 30, 1980 at AVACO Studio and was mixed by Yutaka Kobayashi.
The music for the international version was mixed and edited by Akira Kurosawa on August 5, 1980 using the same recordings for the Japanese version. A newly recorded version of the music during the nightmare scene couldn't be included due to a sufficient source unable to be located.
