Maurice Georges Dantec (born June 13, 1959 in La Tronche, Grenoble, France - died June 25, 2016, Montreal, Quebec, Canada) was a French-born Canadian cyber punk science fiction writer and musician. Living in Paris in the late 1970s he founded the band État d'Urgence which would become
Artefact (1977-1982) in which he played keyboards.
Dantec also worked with
Richard Pinhas in the
Gilles Deleuze tribute project Schizotrope, which released 3 albums; and also with
No One Is Innocent (in 1997) and with
Dead Sexy Inc. (in 2007). He would essentially focus on his writing career, and emigrated to Canada in 1998.
The writer later defined his style as ‘christian futurist’. For some critics, he has drifted towards a certain form of mysticism that began in the book Babylon Babie.
