Photographer, born on June 27, 1950 in Helsinki, Finland and died on June 23, 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Grünstein and her family moved to Sweden in the 1950s and, from 1958 until her death in 2023, she had her home address in Stockholm.
In her youth, Grünstein studied photography both in the U.S.A. and Sweden. In the early 1980s, she was widely recognized and became known as one of Sweden’s best portrait and fashion photographers. She worked for the worldwide lifestyle magazine [l609485] and [l494175]’s ’Månadsjournalen’, sometimes called Sweden’s best cultural magazine, and also as a still photographer at [l303390].
Gradually, Grünstein then shifted more and more to fine-art photography. In 2001, she had her first major solo exhibition, Figurer i landskap at [l332719] in Stockholm and for the first time introduced audiences to her muse and model
Marta Oldenburg, who would remain Grünstein’s collaborator for decades to come.
In 2010 you could see some of Grünstein’s photography at the prestigious [l3197594] in Helsinki, Finland, and in 2014 at
Nationalmuseum Stockholm. In 2018 she started a collaboration with the gallery CFHILL in Stockholm.
