Welsh jazz pianist and composer. Born August 19, 1923 in Newcastle Emlyn, Carmarthenshire, Wales Died June 22, 1984 in Calvary Hospital, The Bronx, New York City, NY, USA. Best known for his playing in the Harlem stride style, but Jones also worked with British bop musicians such as Ronnie Scott, Joe Harriott and Don Rendell in the 1950s. Emigrated to the USA in 1961. During his career, those he performed with included Harry Parry, Humphrey Lyttelton (1947-1948), the orchestra of Vic Lewis, Gene Krupa, Jimmy McPartland, Yank Lawson, and The JPJ Quartet. Died from throat cancer.
